Overcoming the Valentine's Day Blues
Remember -- self-pity has never made the world a better place for anyone, at any times, Valentine's Day or not.
When being alone seems to be such a problem to you, it would be best to set yourself up for doing something about it -- DO NOT wallow. The more time you spend on thinking how depressed you are, the more depressed you are likely to become.
Do not allow yourself to mop around. Try to stay occupied at all times.
The trick of overcoming the dreary feeling of loneliness is to make sure that it has no chance to occur in the first place.
Through activities -- be it alone, with family or with friends -- keep busy, don't allow yourself that opportunity to sit down and look at photographs or letters that are going to leave you feeling sad, morose and lonely.
Even if you do come across these pictures or other mementos by accident, make it a point to remind yourself that at one point or another you were happy and, as they say, you must not have regrets about something that made you smile in the first place.
Even as you spot the ads and special offers that start coming out in late December, put a stop to those self-pitying thoughts and get moving -- try to get yourself a date, or at least consider working up an optimistic attitude for Valentine's Day.
Seeing as one needs time to find a date, and considering that you might prefer one with someone that you at least like, you had better start ahead of time.
Love is all encompassing -- it comes to each of us in one of its forms -- not always the way we wanted it to be...
