Who did not hear this add over the time, repeated again and again? Now, with the Recession, all things being equal, gold has soared in price. For the same amount of gold you may just get back your original investment, for, let's not forget, the price of acquisition for jewelry is much higher than the price of "scrap gold".

But did you ask yourselves what is "scrap gold"?

In my native Romania, as a post war generation, I grew with a huge respect for gold. It was to be coveted not scrapped. Any little bit of gold was kept for the future wedding ring or what not...

If you are a jeweler, you may pour gold in the desired form and drops of the molten liquid may splash out of the mold -- this is scrap gold. Further, if you polish the newly poured form and dust of gold gets out in the process -- this is scrap gold. If you are a private person, you may have old fashioned jewelry -- this is NOT scrap gold. You may have somewhere in the house a molar with a gold filling -- that is scrap gold (in my opinion). If you have broken jewelry, it may be mended, not scrapped.

So what is "scrap gold" for which we might get a "fair" price per gram?

Lately there is a new "war call" for gold -- they make gold bullion out of your scrap gold!

Do you know what is gold bullion? Exactly what the word means -- boiled gold! All scraps are melted in a big pot and poured in little shiny bars of gold, all markings gone, no smell or images attached to it. So, let me ask again, what is "scrap gold"?

I think this is a call at arms for all thieves with a TV. The add says clearly -- bring me your scrap gold, no questions asked, because we make bullion out of it! And this is why I am going to scrap all my gold for cash, before a "nimble one" whisks it away from me.
