Creating A Photo Collage Using Digital Photography
November 2007
Have you thought that creating a photo collage may be a difficult task?
I can tell you that really it isn't -- it will just take a little time, practice, and patience for sure. You will need your editing software and that will normally come with your digital camera. You may want to choose your own software that you will need to help create your photo collage. Once you've figured out how to do it properly, using digital photography you will be able to create the most amazing photo collages ever.
Begin by choosing the digital photographs that you will want in your photo collage. You don't need that many when you are first beginning to learn how to create a photo collage, but get out as many as you think you might need. Sometimes it's difficult to decide between similar pictures -- they are never exactly identical, but you might have enthusiastically clicked and got so many of them...
Open a blank document in your photo editing software and you can begin creating your photo collage. You will want your blank document to be the same size that you are intending your photo collage to end up being.
Holding the shift key down will allow you to drag the digital photographs where you want them without distorting the images. Aside positioning, you may want to look into resizing your photographs. Depending on the layout of your photo collage you can go back and forth changing the sizes of the photographs until you get it the way that you like.
Finally, you will need to find that perfect photograph that you are going to make the centerpiece for you photo collage and that would go right in the middle. Actually, it doesn't have to always go exactly in the center -- it just depends on what kind of look you are trying to create with your photo collage.
One of the hardest parts of creating a photo collage is blending the digital photographs. Blending can be very tedious. It will take practice and time, so, just try not to get too frustrated. If you make mistakes (and who doesn't?), and don't like how the photo collage is coming out, you can always erase any things you are not happy with. Then just go back and bring out that photograph you started with and drag it back into your document to reposition, resize, etc. When worse comes to the worst, you may decide to open a new blank document and just start over until you get it just the way you want. But you know what? Don't scrap the first one until you are sure you do not have any more use for it, because sometimes mistakes are more interesting than perfection!
Nowadays, digital photography gives to each one of us, digital photographers, the opportunity to do so many amazing things with our photographs. You can create collages for anyone of your many collections. Some people find this kind of thing really enjoyable. The more you do it the better you'll get at it, and in no time you'll be showing friends or family how they too can create the perfect photo collage. It's just another cool thing to learn and perhaps turn it into a very fun hobby for your free time, and don't forget -- many times hobbies can be turned into home businesses.
